Andre Russell, Tony Parker, Kevin Primmer, Steve Frakes, Richard Dunnett, Russ Whitmore, Steve Naylor, Steve Warner, Mike Harrison, Terry McCormick, Martin Meyers.

John Even, Brian Heald, Dave Carrie, Dave Minogue, Phil Pickard, Kevin Bush, Craig Primmer.

Before the meeting started, the Chairman offered his congratulations to Steve Frakes as the 2011 BFTA Championship winner. Steve was awarded the Jim Clements trophy. Steve has attended most of this years events, and hit a remarkable level of consistency - he is a well deserved winner. The Chairman’s Pairs Trophy was won by Dave Carrie and Steve Frakes. Dave has won this competition on both occasions that it has been fished, his catch rate may not be the highest but he sure knows how to pick a partner – well done Dave.

From the 2010 minutes:

Banners – two banners have been supplied by John Dagnall, these have been used on BFTA fishing days.

Car Stickers – Steve Naylor has a list of suppliers and prices. The meeting was happy to proceed. Russ Whitmore will send Steve a pdf file for possible artwork.

Number of members stands at 65. Numbers seem to have been hit by the United Utilities ban and general economic issues. Problems with the PayPal system via the web-site has not helped matters in the membership department.

The meeting had a general discussion on the merits of the PayPal system. It was unanimously agreed that this was more effort than it was actually worth to us, so the meeting agreed that the option to pay via PayPal would be scrapped. Tony Parker will post a news flash on the web forum.

In terms of Forum membership applications: Due to the unsolicited attacks on the forum, it was decided that any new applicants to join must contact one of the administrators direct via e-mail, it is hoped that this will deter the nuisance element of the internet.

In terms of finance: We have £1891.05 cash on hand. The largest expense this year has been £222 to join the Anglers Trust and £100 for insurance. With cash in-hand, the meeting agreed to leave the membership fee at £10.

Andre Russell proposed that the accounts be accepted, seconded Russ Whitmore, carried unanimously.

This season has been very difficult in many different ways. The cost of fuel was recognised early on as a possible factor for low attendance at the proposed meetings. Then we were unexpectedly hit by the United Utilities ban, and all the negative publicity that surrounded that.

On a personal note the season started well and was looking bright, when an altercation with a Vauxhall Corsa threw my whole world into turmoil. Add to this the driest year on record, and astonishing low water levels on the waters we are allowed to fish on, and I think its fair to say most of us won’t be sorry to see the back of 2011.

On the plus side those that have attended the meetings have done really well. The catch rate is very impressive and it is nice to see some of the newer members really getting into the spirit of the association and benefiting from the knowledge of the more established tubers.

Steve Frakes has had an outstanding season and has justly been rewarded for his efforts by winning the Jim Clements Trophy, it is nice to see a new name on the cup but he should be reminded its only on loan for the year. Dave Carrie has optimised the spirit of the association. Dave comes along to the meets, fishes for his own pleasure and the social side of the sport, and he is now rewarded with the bonus of a trophy for his efforts. Whether you are competitive, or just a social angler, you are all welcome at the BFTA meetings. All credit to those that attend regularly, your effort and loyalty is greatly appreciated.  New members are always made welcome.

Special mention should also be made regarding Steve Naylor, who virtually single handed took control of the UU issue in my absence, and handled himself in the most professional of manner. The presentation to the UU Management Team was acknowledged as top drawer, and it is disappointing that at the time of this meeting they have not matched Steves’ standards by letting us have some sort of feedback. Maybe this will be forthcoming before the end of the year.

It was proposed by Martin Mayers, and seconded by Steve Warner, that the incumbent officers be re-elected en-bloc. The meeting carried this proposal.

It was proposed by Steve Warner and seconded by Mike Harrison, that in recognition of his efforts in particular this year, that Steve Naylor be appointed as Vice Chairman of the Association. This was carried unanimously!  On a personal note, the Chairman stated that he was very pleased with this decision, as Steve has on more than one occasion stood in and taken the role of Chairperson.

Prior to the meeting, a member had requested that consideration be given to returning to the one off match system for the BFTA Championship. This was in some part, a recognition of the fact that the cost of travelling was impacting on attendance, and that from the low attendance levels the impact of the championship was slightly diminished. The meeting discussed this issue at length. However, the members present overwhelmingly felt that the current system of individual rounds rewarded the most consistent angler, rather than the luckiest angler on any given day. There was no one in favour of reverting back to the old format.

Venues for 2012 were discussed and an outline plan established. Kevin Primmer will firm up some dates and publish a preliminary calendar on the forum.

Andre Russell
